Angry Just got a sad email from CJ -_-

Well yet another disappointment I got this email from cj.com

Dear Commission Junction Advertisers, Publishers and Partners:

What do you want out of your affiliate marketing relationships? Think carefully before you answer. We did, and came to only one possible conclusion – results. In a business built on pay-for-performance, results is the only true measure of our mutual success.

This letter introduces a series of changes designed to drive improved results from your affiliate marketing relationships. These changes make it necessary for us to modify our service agreement with you. Details are provided on the coming changes and their impact on both advertisers (merchants) and publishers (affiliates).

NEW SERVICE AGREEMENT

By way of this email, Commission Junction notifies you that your Service Agreement is being revised with effect from July 1, 2001.

Advertisers
The new Advertiser Service Agreement is posted on www.cj.com under the Advertiser sign-up area at: http://www.cj.com/applicationwide/Ne..._Agreement.epl

Publishers
The new Publisher Service Agreement is posted on www.cj.com under the Publisher sign-up area at: https://signup.cj.com/signup/signup/affiliate/new_affiliate_service_agreement.jsp?form_name=aff_ signup

To assist you in understanding the changes to the Service Agreements, we've prepared a brief list explaining the impact of each change. This list is located at the end of this email.

You are being notified more than fourteen (14) days in advance of this Agreement entering into effect. Unless you notify Commission Junction at legal@cj.com before July 1, 2001 that you do not agree to the terms of the entire new Service Agreement and wish to withdraw from the Service, you will be deemed to agree with the modifications and the new Service Agreement shall be in effect from July 1, 2001 and govern your relationship with Commission Junction.

OPEN MARKETPLACE

Effective July 1, 2001, Commission Junction will begin openly publishing payment and conversion statistics on ads, advertisers and publishers within our network, effectively creating the first Open Marketplace for pay-for-performance advertising.

The primary metric we will publish is EPC ("average earnings per one hundred clicks"). EPC shows an advertiser’s ability to convert visitors to commissions and a publisher’s potential success in generating commissions.

What does this mean to you? Simply put, you will get more of what you want – more accountability, visibility, quality, and most importantly, more results.

Publishers will be able to quickly search, find and place the most productive ads on their Web site in order to get the most revenue possible from their audience. As a result, advertisers will receive more sales and leads on a pay-for-performance basis.
Advertisers will have a new tool to measure the effectiveness of their ads and program.
Advertisers will be able to gauge the relative earnings potential of publishers before they join their program.
Publishers will be able to eliminate the guesswork associated with pay-for-performance advertising and partner with advertisers who have a proven track record of producing results.
As a result, both advertisers and publishers will get more of what they want – honest and effective revenue-generating relationships. For more details on the performance metrics we are publishing, please refer to the FAQ we have prepared on this subject at: http://www.cj.com/downloads/ppfaq.asp

NEW PRICING

Effective July 1, 2001, the following pricing changes will be in effect for Commision Junction advertisers (please note all prices are in US dollars):

Commission Junction’s transaction fee is increasing from 20% to 30%
There will be a minimum transaction fee of $.30 per lead or sale.

This means that advertisers paying a commission of $1.00 or less per sale or lead will be charged a minimum transaction fee of $.30 regardless of the payout amount. Advertisers paying more than $1.00 per lead or sale will be charged the 30% transaction fee.


Note to Partners: Advertisers signing up between June 1st and June 30th will have a transaction fee of 30%.

PAY-PER-CLICK PROGRAMS

Effective, August 1, 2001, Commission Junction will no longer enable and will phase out conventional pay-per-click as a payout option within our network.

The acquisition of sales and leads has become Commission Junction’s forte. Just driving traffic is not enough anymore, as pay-per-click programs do not directly provide the tangible ingredient fundamental to the success of every business – new customers. This is our strength and we need to focus our business on delivering it better than anyone else.


Advertisers currently running a pay-per-click program have 60 days to convert to a pay-per-lead or pay-per-sale program before we functionally disable this capability. We will still track and report on all click activity, but advertisers will no longer be able to use Commission Junction to pay on that activity. All pay-per-click revenue will be tracked, reported and paid as usual for the next 60 days.

Advertisers and publishers are encouraged to shift resources dedicated to pay-per-click programs to pay-per-lead or pay-per-sale programs. Our Client Services department is available to work directly with every customer that would like to consider this as an option. Our business remains strong. While other ad networks have experienced financial difficulty, we have continued to experience considerable growth, adding blue-chip names to our roster and powerful new features to our system (see Commission Junction’s latest financial press release at: http://www.cj.com/about/frame_abo_ar...ai_CatId=301).

And now, more than ever, Commission Junction is equipped to make your affiliate marketing relationships even more powerful, proactive, and productive - by driving results to a whole new level via the creation of an open marketplace for pay-for-performance advertising.

We realize that introducing these changes will cause you to re-examine the results you want and expect from your affiliate marketing relationships, but in the end, those same changes will positively impact your ability to get what you want from both our business and yours.

Earncow, it's great to see you here at Geek/Talk, but please check the dates that forum posts were made before responding to an old, archived thread. This one from Outlaw, for example, was actually written more than 7 years ago, in 2001. He's probably over the disappointment of CJ's revised terms by now.
