Default Networking to win business

Perhaps the oldest form of marketing, face-to-face networking remains an effective tool for building relationships, trust and understanding with businesses that operate within a particular industry or region.

Most towns these days house chambers of commerce or similar, formal networking groups who gather for breakfast or wine while listening to inspirational speakers and discussing business. Even in our industry, which is newer and more globally-focused than most, a number of industry associations and informal groups meet at trade shows and other networking functions to establish and grow alliances with complementary organisations and publications.

I'm just wondering how many of our geeks have explored these opportunities and, if so, how beneficial they have found such relationship building exercises to be.

Have you attended any industry trade shows, local networking meetings or business breakfasts lately?
