I recently added web hosting (as a reseller for a large ISP) as part of my web design business. But when I mention the option of hosting a client's web site as part of my service, the client almost always asks "do you have your own servers in your house"? I don't really know how to respond at this point. I don't want to lie but the client immediately thinks "why should I use a middleman when I can get hosting directly at probably a lower cost" if I tell them I'm just a reseller.
Thoughts? How do other resellers advertise web hosting? What do you tell your clients? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! Randal |

I have found web hosting one of the most difficult things (but not impossible) to sell online (from a web page)...That aside, here are some suggestions if you have proper communication with an offline client:
1. Don't break down the prices in your quote if you don't have to 2. If the direct price is the same as the reseller price, the benefits to the client are:- i. You know the host, therefore you can provide additional support above+beyond the host's own ii. You know the host, therefore your hours, and therefore charges to the client will be less. iii. If you do break down the price (never a wise move IMHO, as it gives the client more items to question), you can argue that the client is paying no more, but the commission on hosting is "subsiding" your other work for design work for the client 3. As for is it on your own server - you should present it as a benefit that it's not. Would the client prefer to be hosted on any mom+pop shop with a leased line, or one of the largest/best/etc. hosts on the net, with 24 hr support, financial stability etc. Hope this helps ------------------
