With online ad revenue growth starting to stagnate and the battle for search revenues all but won by Google, Microsoft has started to look back at traditional media for revenue growth.
Fortunately, the story isn't quite that simple. They've acquired a company that produces interactive ads for TV, so they won't be functioning as a traditional media company producing standard 30-second spots as such. Instead, Microsoft will be controlling interactive ad units that appear outside of standard advertising times, such as those that are layered over TV program content. See this story for more on Microsoft's purchase of Navic Networks: http://www.adotas.com/2008/06/micros...up-tv-ad-firm/
