Dedicated Server Basics - geek/talk: Web publishing business discussion

Right now, my main sites are on virtual hosting accounts, but by sometime next year, I am likely to be moving up to a dedicated server. The reasons include increasing traffic (and cgi usage), along with an "economy of scale" where one dedicated server could accomodate all of my sites for a lower total rent than having numerous virtual hosting accounts.

I have an extra computer here, and have been playing around with Apache, and RTFM-ing about Linux. (Linux/Apache is definitely what I will be using in the future.) I would like to do as much learning and testing as possible before I set up my live/money-earning sites on an expensive server demanding attention and money.

Can anyone recommend some good basic introductions/guides to studying server administration (besides the articles mentioned in the Apache docs)?

If you installed and configured apache you probably already know more than most level 1 and 2 techs anyways

You actually don't have to know all that much about servers to run one that's put elsewhere. Unless you're hosting the box at your house or place of business, they take care of most of the work, even if it is work that they stand there scratching their heads trying to look through their little book of tech support answers (yes, they have them, and they have a tendency to never answer my questions) while you look it up on the apache site and find the answer. But, nevertheless, I wouldn't worry about the difficulty of running your server and more along the lines of pricing and server specs.
