Default multiple sales tracked?

Does anyone know the answer to this....

If a webmaster advertises an affiliate program listed at one of the big solution providers (CJ, Linkshare, etc), does the network track just the first sale from a surfer or all of the sales from that same surfer?

Here's an example of what I'm asking. Joe Affiliate sends a surfer to CompuCyberSoftware via his affiliate link, and the surfer makes a purchase. Joe gets commission for this sale. If the surfer goes back to CompuCyberSoftware that same day (by typing in the domain, or perhaps clicking on the link in their email sales receipt, specifically NOT through someone else's affiliate link), or perhaps doesn't even leave the merchant site after the initial purchase, and buys more stuff, does Joe get commission for that sale too?

This isn't so much a cookie-length question, but whether or not a cookie gets cleared after an initial commission is paid to the affiliate.

Anyone know?

Hi JP,

Well not sure about all the other networks, but in CJ they call it Action Referral Occurrences. It's a variable that can be set by the merchant. I'm not sure other networks even show the data to affiliates, but on CJ, just look at a merchants program terms.

You will see Action Referral Occurrences - Unlimited, 1, 3 or whatever the merchant set up. So this setting basically allows affiliates to get credit for repeat sales with that merchant during the designated cookie period.
