Unhappy How Many Sites?

I was just wondering how many sites each person here runs?

I have three that I give substantial attention to (and are generating various levels of profit), and two others that are very basic, and kind of "on the back-burner" for the moment (which aren't generating a profit.)

I am thinking that I need to come up with some more sites on different topics, to increase the total audience reach. Rather then trying to get a million page views a month on one site, perhaps it might be easier to get 100K page views on each of ten different sites.

Part of the issue is how many sites can you have while still giving each one enough attention to keep the traffic up, and keep it profitable?

I have a bunch of sites, but am only devoting time to 2-3 right now.

I don't think there's necessarily a connection between how much time you spend on the site and its profits, though.

It's ironic how one of my one-page sites, which is pretty ugly and simple and took me two hours to create and optimize for the search engines and has never been touched since has made me $4500 in a year, and is actually growing in profit every month :-)

Meanwhile sites that I spent lots of time on make me almost nothing.

I feel that I've found the "correct formula" now, though.

Since I'm about to start doing this full-time my plan is to concentrate on 5-6 profitable and constantly updated sites, but I might eventually go the other way and focus most of my efforts on one site :-)

For me it takes much more time to build content than to promote/market the sites.

If I improve the effectivity of what I do when I'm on the net, I should be able to maintain 5-6 sites and still have a life :-)

I just need to cut down on all the unneccesary "fun" things on the net (like checking stats ;-)
