Cool What type of site is the best?

I'd just like some input from anyone who makes at least 200$ or more from a single site. Not from all your 20 sites combined. Also do not count money from referrals, pay to surf programs, etc.

Also, what programs you use and how much you make with them. What type of site you have and the url of the site. How much traffic you get and where most of the traffic comes from. No porn, emulation, or mp3 please.

Example.

Hi Bob, I make 3000$ a month from my site www.portalsite.com. I make 300$ from ClickTrade, 600$ from AllClicks and 2100$ from CPM banners at Teknosurf. My site deals with search engine type stuff and receives most of its traffic from Bob's Carburetor page.

Bryan,

Thanks for bringing your question to the forum.

Let me take your post, and break it up a bit. I hope you don't mind me disecting it.

First, by the title of your post you ask, "What type of site is the best?"

I'm glad you said, "No porn, emulation, or mp3 please." This is a start. Most folks look for hot ideas. If you're trying to hit a hot idea, chances are by the time you have everyone tell you how hot it is, it's already too late.

I used to help folks write business plans, to take to banks or investors to sell their ideas. Many folks made sure I'd swear not to discuss their idea with anyone, (which was proper business conduct anyway), because they didn't want anyone stealing an idea. You can't steal an idea, they're out there for everyone to play with. Success is not about the idea, success is about YOUR ability to make an idea work. So as folks share ideas here, it's important we understand more than the type of site folks, but their reasoning for chosing that type of site.

With your understanding Bryan, I'd like folks to focus on how much traffic they generate from a site, before they get into income.

I also packaged sales promotions. My goal was to "generate more traffic through their front door." I was trying to get people to see my value to them first in how much traffic I drove through their front door. If they didn't look at traffic first, and only looked at sales, I could have done my job, and they may not realize it. How's that? Well if I increase traffic through your front door, and your sales don't increase proportionally, you have problems in other areas. Like your product is not as in demand as you may believe, may be your store is crummy, maybe your sales people can't sell.

So why the sermon you ask? I really don't see a web site any different than a business.

First you have to think about and formulate a plan, a theme as to what it's all about.

Second you need to think about marketing, that's getting people to know who you are, and what you are selling.

And finally you get to selling, that's once you get folks to your "Store" (or website), how will you sell your product or service.

I have more I could say, but it's time to step back and see what stews.....

Cool

No offense Questy, but I would REALLY love it if you would just answer my question. http://www.very-cool-stuff.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey, I'm a net man. I've been using a comp since 89 and made my first site in 96. You don't have to lecture me. http://www.very-cool-stuff.com/ubb/wink.gif

I was just kinda asking everyone on this bbs who had the best experience which each type of site. Of course the online shopping sites will generate the most $, but its very hard to drive the traffic to them.

Anyway, thanks.

Hi Bryan,

I've been interested in the responses to your question as well... and have been awaiting them too.

However, I can see why no one's responding... it's not good business. Let's say you are making $6000/mo doing X,Y,Z. Do you think people are going to explaing exactly how they did it?

Bryan,

My goal as moderator is not always to simply answer your question, but in many ways, get you to think about what you are asking, and get as many people as possible involved in a discussion.

My gut feeling about your question when you first asked it was two concerns.

First, I think you're looking for some simple "cut and dried" answers to very complex issues. And that's why I gave my first response.

Second I had some concerns about folks willingness to simply give you a URL, and tell you exactly how much money they are making on it.

I think from the fact that there are some decent conversations going on in this forum right now, but your question goes answered, would seem to confirm that feeling.

Look at the thread where the topic was re-investing profit. While it has strayed off topic a tad, there's some very good input there from folks who are "big time" webmasters. In fact in you look at that thread, I think you will find some of the answers to your original question, "what kind of site is best."

My initial comments to you were made not as a lecture to you in any negative way, but hopefully to add extra input to get folks to respond to your thread.

Hope this helps, and still hopeful we can get some thoughts flowing on this thread.
