Local listings play an important role in SEO. Every business should have a Google listing. These listings are practical, useful and free. Everytime someone visits your local listing. For example if someone is looking for some clothing shop in Mumbai, all the local places listing come to the top then the regular Web search results. If you are there your listing will come with a map apart from the web search result of your site.

their optimization is slightly same as SEO but their directories are different and we have to set up Google Places with quality details about the local business

exactly the google map listning is very helpful to get inquiries and to track locations. For that we need to work for our keywords which we were used during our listning. by doing this we are searchable in results for maps and for the keywords in title.
