Actually, yes! There are some popular ways of making money via YouTube both directly 'as a YouTube Partner' or indirectly 'Getting traffic to where you make money'.

In short, if you focus mainly on getting more views to your videos and you are making original content then apply to become a YouTube partner. If you want to convert viewers to click on your link just give them a good reason to do so.

I think you also need to clarify your topic title a little more so people know what it is about.

Thanks Fary. It's encouraging to see a substantial and thoughtful response being made to this post.

You're right in that video content that has broad appeal and the ability to rack up tens of thousands of views, or more, could cover its production cost or net a tidy profit simply through ad revenue sharing that is available via the YouTube Partner program. There are also some third-party outfits that are looking to partner with successful content producers on a revenue share arrangement.

Otherwise, using clips to build your brand and to channel people through to other websites or newsletters that you operate is an indirect way to use YouTube as a source of leads and future revenue.

In order to make money on Youtube, of course, you must have upload videos. However, the quality of your videos will matter (I don't mean the resolution). I mean if you videos are helpful and attracts many viewers, there will be 2 cases:
1. Youtube will pay you an amount of money in order for you to produce more qualitied videos.
2. You can add to your videos advertisements of companies, which demand.
