So far my experience is concerned I would suggest to leave it to your web hosting services provider, and for some reason if you want to purchase it at your own, approach 'GoDaddy'.

There are a few things you want to know of your domain registrar.

How easy or difficult is it do the following:
* updating your DNS settings
* resetting your password
* getting you EPP code
* setting up private domain registration

Some other questions:
* Do they have auto-renewal?
* How am I notified when my domain is about to expire
* Do you allow domain forwarding
* What are your operating hours?

I've seen where a client needed to update their DNS setting, and the domain registrar had gone on hiatus or leave.

I consider GoDaddy as the best registrar since its old and established while at the same time have price at very down point so I can easily afford to have my own site within my budget. At the moment we can get .Com domain for just 99 cents with using the promo code of “99WORD” it’s an excellent discount deal!
