Recently domain name aftermarket Afternic stopped brokering gambling, adult, violence and other "vice" domains.
Afternic said they did this in order to make Afternic and the domain industry more inviting to small businesses as well as others that might be offended by some of the domains that were listed on its exchange. Some are now thinking there might have been a little more behind this as well since Afternic has now been purchased by NameMedia. There is some belief that is one of the reason they were eliminating the adult and gambling domains from their system. NameMedia also owns BuyDomains and ActiveAudience. The Afternic house parking had been DomainSponsor. It will be replaced by ActiveAudience. Information about the selling price hasn't been released. Below are links to some articles with more details. http://www.domaininformer.com/news/p...NameMedia.html http://domainnamewire.com/2006/11/28...e-marketplace/ http://www.bizreport.com/2006/11/nam..._afternic.html |

The wonderful men and women from Oversee / DomainSponsor used to maintain a very active presence on Geek/Talk, though I haven't seen them around these parts much this year. If any of you are still out there, I'm sure our visitors would love an insight into how DomainSponsor plans to react to this decision. I sincerely hope that you're able to grow the base of independent domain holders sufficiently to make up for the shortfall that will be caused by this change.
