As with many legal matters, this one is very complicated. ICANN and VeriSign have reached a settlement, but not everyone is pleased, so there is a lawsuit.
VeriSign retains control over the .com registry and they would be allowed to have a 7 percent increase each year until 2012. This would naturally increase the price of domain registrations. Also VeriSign would be allowed to get 10 percent of the sale price in the secondary market.
