Today, I was looking at the headers of some Asian-language spams that I had received. I get a lot of them, and have been trying to figure out some filtering rules.
I noticed that a number of them contained: charset="gb2312" A little research shows that that is the code to indicate that the message should be displayed with the Simplified Chinese font. (If you don't have that font installed, you get gibberish.) Personally, I don't have any reason to expect any legitimate mail in Chinese. And I wouldn't be able to read it, anyway. I use an old version of Eudora, and set a filter to look for any header containing that string, and dump the message to the trash. ![]() It seems to be working, so I thought I would pass it along. |

I use Qurb for my spam filtering but also like to have some filter rules setup like yours. You might want to add the charset 'iso-2022-jp' and 'SHIFT_JIS' to your filter list. Ive found these to be a popular one for spam coming from japan and several other countries.
If you hare having problems with other asian countries, University of Arizona has a list of popular charset's for asian spam - http://web.arizona.edu/~consult/spam.html |
