View Full Version : Geek Village Merchandise Description - Bad Taste

Just a quick note to say I didn't find any humor in the following description of the long armed t-shirt, despite the smiley face.

"Long Sleeve T-Shirt

Hanes® 100% cotton long sleeve T-shirts
Hide your needle marks with this gem http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif"

To the uninformed "needle marks" are the injuries left on the arms of people who inject drugs. A refresher course in marketing might improve sales, just my 2 cents.

It's just a joke.....take it as such... http://geekvillage.com/ubb/wink.gif

I thought this was hysterical ( from the mouse pad description)...

Yea, we know you have a mouse and a browser which qualifies you to micro manage every company on the planet.

Too funny......

My short sleeve ash grey t shirt arrived a few days ago. My wife saw it and said "What's 'got root' mean? Is that something dirty?" http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Note to Steve, they shipped pretty quickly in a USPS priority mail cardboard envelope, but I thought it was unusual that they didn't enclose any invoice or anything else in the package....a marketing opportunity lost.....

Hey Robert,

I actually do have have a wide sense of humor but when a company markets goods it should keep humor within the lines of good taste. I personally would add the following description in this case,

Long Sleeve T-Shirt

Hanes® 100% cotton long sleeve T-shirts
Hide your tattoos with this gem http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Less offensive in my eyes.

PS : Robert I don't know if it due to the exodus of people from goto.com to the other Pay Per Search engines but my searchtraffic.com revenue have doubled over the past week, keep up the good work.

We removed the ads from the results pages. I'm sure that's helped. Glad your pleased.

Back to t-shirts....
How about "If it's warm enough for a t-shirt, why do you need long sleeves?"

How about including my favorite "geek" phrase on the next run of shirts: "The geeks shall inherit the earth." (a small pic of Bill Gates next to this would really drive the message across) http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm sorry you found my T-shirt description lacking in good taste. Please accept my appolagies. Thank you for the alternate text.

My intent was humor, sarcasim, and an attempt to convey some of the "flavor" of GV. Most folks found it very funny and "cutting" but your point is well taken. It's a very similar "style" to our Posting Guide at http://www.geekvillage.com/posting_guide_for_bb.htm

Iv'e got some folks working on new art and new text. Stay tuned for a contest http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I like the description.

They know what they are doing. You can't please everyone, but the humor makes their store something enjoyable to view.

I've never looked at it, but now I want to http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif . In fact I will after making this post.

And obviously they are selling. Great job guys. I'm all for everyone doing something to make some money outside of ads, because we all need alternative means for income these days.
