Hi fellow geeks http://www.very-cool-stuff.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

The problem is that some long URLs in e-mail fall appart and are no longer clickable. Look at your browsers Address field for this forum as an example. The other problem is that you don't wan't to break external links to your .cgi scripts if they move or change. Last, Hyperseek has a glitch with long affiliate urls that wont work. Iv'e been using the age old ....meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" tag in an html page which is fine for some things.

Here is a little .cgi script that does the same thing and is transparent to the surfer and a bit faster. Please don't try this unless you know what you are doing. I'm not responsable:

#!/usr/bin/perl

# Use this cgi to redirect to .html or .cgi pages on your site
# Set to your servers path to pearl above and permissons to 755
# Name file with .cgi like bb.cgi
# Link below could even be another script like: http://www.very-cool-stuff.com/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Webmaster+Issues&number=3&DaysPrune=10&LastLogin=
# Link below could also be a .html file like: http://www.yoursite.com/mypage.html
# Use a Unix safe ASCII editor to creat this file and upload as ASCII

print "Location: http://www.yoursite.com/mypage.html\n\n";

You can click below to see how this works and you will return to this forum:

www.very-cool-stuff.com/bb.cgi (http://www.very-cool-stuff.com/bb.cgi)

Enjoy!
