Just had a quick question.

I have been debating to myself whether I should keep my site dynamic with pages that are generated on the fly, or one that creates static html documents based on my DB.

I was wondering if anyone out there knew exactly how much of a load a totally dyanmic php/sql db driven site would put, over a regular site, and if it's worth it converting to static pages.

Thanks,
-JB

depends on what script(s) you run i suppose and how well optimised the mysql queries are and the mysql/server setup.

i run a mysql/php based forum using vbulletin.com script and generate over 1,000+ posts/day and up to 20k pageviews/day - it forced me to move from a dedicated AMD K6/2 500, 384mb ram server with 50gb/month to a P3 733, 256mb with 100gb/month server.

one thing i realised is if you mysql server stuffs up, the entire site can be down. But then again backing up mysql database for a site is easier to manage and transport etc
