this is a website i made to allow people with their own websites to see who is online and where, similar to the feature on some message boards.

its url is: www.usercount.com

site is 2 weeks old, gets 92,000 hits per day, and keeps growing. i havent done advertising, just word of mouth stuff. paypal can be incorporated to setup monthly subscriptions if you choose.

you get all the source code with site, domain, server.

Asking $2000. email me bart@shaw.ca if you have any questions.

thanks!

those are hits that include everything. Do you have stats that show how many unique visitors a day?

no, but that is a 5 minute job to implement. :) if you're interested in buying, we could do some minor tweaks to make the site suit your tastes more...

thanks!

no, revenue can be made using the following examples:

i) monthly subscriptions to the service
ii) co-branding, meaning to display results on clients website
iii) licensing of the source code to others.

is there a simple "checked box" way to do that? or would it involve someone actually knowing how to do it?

no, it has to be programmed in, let me know if you're still interested.

As always, ask yourself how much it would cost to make the site yourself.

The name is great. The design is clean.

The backend programming? Hard to say, but from a cursory glance I know what is being done.

So, can you program? If so, the answer is simple. If not, then the next question is how much are you willing to pay for programming?

There is a gotcha with this site - I signed up and found the stats useful, but noticed that for every page visit UserCount grabs the HTML of the page being visited in order to display the page title in the stats page.

The html on my moderately busy site is about 5gigs a month - having UserCount keep track would have doubled this.

If there are several, or many, busy sites signed up, the monthly byte transfer could be quite considerable easily reaching 100 gigs a month, the costs of which must be offset against any advertising/subscription revenue.

Nice site, though and nice idea.

i think thats reasonable, it took me about a month to make, spent a couple of hours per day. this is my first php site, so i had to learn alot. i think i did fairly well.

yes, the bandwidth part i think you emailed me about. nobody else complained about this. currently, with roughly averaging 250 users online concurrently, we only use 300MB per day.

we are monitoring the situation, and if we feel its unacceptable, we will have the option of taking this feature out. but for now, its a nifty little addon. makes things more interesting.

And yes I can program. I am a university computer science major.

Does $1500 still seem high, I will entertain other offers... email me or post them here.

Thanks

FWIW, takacsj wasn't doubting your ability to program. His rhetorical question was aimed at potential purchasers to give them an appreciation of how to value a property of this type.

Best of luck with the sale. :)

Looks like a nice site.

If you're asking for opinions, then i'll give you mine. It all basically depends on one thing, and that is... are you going to be redistributing the scripts, or using them at all for another site? I know the scripts are custom coded, but I guess what I am trying to say is: Will I see another site up on sale here at geekvillage with the same scripts/layout for sale 2 months after if I were to buy this site from you? Or would I never see any site ever using the same scripts.

I think if you truly want to make this sale, you will need to give the owners full rights to the code. In other words, you couldn't ever redistribute the code or use it, but if the new owners wanted to, they could.

So... is this included with the site sale? Full rights to the code? Could I open a site and distribute the code for free download if I wanted to? (Note, i'm not trying to be unreasonable here. If I did buy the site, selling these scripts on the side might be a good idea.)

Thanks,
SkuZZy

that is correct. once you buy the site, you get all rights, the code, and you can sell it to others, or do whatever you like with it. i will erase it off my computer and you will not see me giving it to anyone. we can make this a condition of the sale if anyone wishes to do so.

once again, the new owner does whatever he/she pleases, and i give up my rights to all of it.
