View Full Version : It's got me!

I guess it was only a matter of time but I've now got something that keeps launching pop-unders for "gopopup.com". I've loaded Ad-ware and although it did a great job of finding other stuff, this one still remains. I've also emailed gopopup.com and they gave me a couple of things to do but they still keep coming. Any other ideas or options? Also, is there any place to report this? I have been a big one for "freedom" on the Internet but this type of stuff and porn spam can make one reconsider.

I think I finally got it!

Gee my own personal post. I think I hear voices in my head. Oh, its only me.

lol. :) Any clue as to what it might have been?

Scumware? Spyware? Trojan? None of the above?

Did you find something that AdAware glossed over?

(can I possibly fit any more questions into this post? - Hmmm...guess so!)

It's the weather in America's Finest City.

Ready? Here we go. This requires some technical knowledge to edit your registry so you need to make backups of your registry BEFORE you start. A mistake can disable your system so PLEASE be carefull.

1. Find out what .exe is running that causes the pops. May be more than one. Find the exe and examine it via properties to see who wrote it is a good way to see which ones are nasty. Also, ask the pop up company the file names of all their .exe AND "stubs" AND DLLs.

2. Boot safe to Windows aka safe boot

3. start>run>regedit

4. Search for these .exe and other files they installed and remove these entries from your registry

5. Restart in normal windows mode

Good luck and welcome in case I forgot.

Thanks Czar & Steve...

I'm still not fully sure that I got it but I haven't seen a pop from them for awhile. I did remove some stuff but my true ignorance would show through if I tried to describe what I did (stuff like throwing my fish tacos and beans at the monitor).

Thanks to you both for the welcome. I feel like one of the big kids being here over FWS.
