It looks like popups are becoming the norm now, I went to the yahoo mail site and on the main webpage a popup came up, also again when I logged in again another popup and also when I exited the site they had a exit popup as well. What is weird though there was one popup (should be banned) called "what you want?" and then on top it had the word *** to click onto so I clicked on it went to a search engine but then it popped some softcore porn sites this was all from yahoo mail site, check it out.

I think I made a mistake the same popup ads from yahoo site was on another site (both sites don't normally show popup advertising), it looks to me somebody took over my browser and somehow I downloaded some code that makes my browser popup windows once and awhile. How the heck can you disable it? And how did they even do it that is change the browser software like this I run windows me. I apologize for the shock thing it looked to me like something it appeared not.

Moving thread to Theftware/Scumware forum.

weagle, your first stop should be AdAware (http://www.lavasoft.de/aaw/). This free tool will scan your system in an attempt to identify spyware/adware products that can make their way into your system through downloads of products such as Gator, Kazaa, etc.

Incidentally though, Yahoo! have indeed been using popups/popunders on many of their properties for over a year, so while these may not of been theirs, the validation is there.

I tried adware it didn't work, maybe because this scumware is very new. But its amazing when I ran adware how many things were already installed on my computer like gator and alexa and I have no idea which site I went to that downloaded this stuff into my system/browser. I even found some other interesting things when you mentioned adware at this link:

http://home-1.tiscali.nl/~staak/spyware.htm

especially the one that says optout internet spyware detection at the site click on shieldsup and checks your connection and port connection online, I didn't even know my netbios was open and accepting annoymous connection, it told me that, now I want to learn how to turn that thing off too. Interesting stuff.

I have no idea what program or driver is running in the background causing the popups wish there was a program that could tell you this ie what programs are accessing internet connections or what com files/drivers are accessing the internet or something. Is there any programs that can detect that?

I'll try it out it showed two things the NE program that is in the task manager even if I get rid of NE in task manager it still forces popups but i'll try it this way through bho program and the adobe acrobat thing which I can just leave. regardless if these things are attached to the browser through the registry keys then its great to know that you can see what is attached to the browser that is not part of the browser. I'll try it out let you know if this works.

I tried it, it didn't work what can I do if this is a fairly new program scumware popup program. Could I write the regitry keys to a file and give it to these company's for analysis to see what's attached to my browser? I didn't deactivate the NE program I read in details it was called smartpop I wonder what that is if that's what is causing these popups? Still deactivated it and it still pops things.

bho did remove some stuff, amazingly when I downloaded the mp3 type client/server software ie kazaa and audiogalaxy soon as I installed them I had a host of other scumware stuff on my system that wasn't even by them, I wonder how much they get paid to put that **** in their software. I was able to deactivate all of them with bho I guess since they are popular/common. I think I'm having problem with one I even know now what it is because I right/click properties on that window and it had the url in one ads for popup from whenu.com then I go to their website and they say they're like in the top 20 nielson ratings on the internet rated site and I looked and they have like 3 million people because of their scumware software. Bho/adware wasn't able to remove whenu, I have no idea how to remove it, I think there should be a law where if you find out which company is doing it you can go to their website and deactivate it but thats not the case. It ticks me off I can't remove this stuff easily off my system even though I now know who they are, and second ticks me off how so many other webmasters work hard and market their website to get users to the site and then you see these scumware people overnight get millions of users, next thing you know they'll make scumware where it'll be like a virus ie peertopeer you get it and pass it onto your buddy you connected to.
