View Full Version : Why are people rude?

Have we as a society lost the most common and basic rule we should live by, The Golden Rule? Seems everywhere I go lately people have forgotten such common courtesies, such as please, thank you and even Hello! I just don't get it. Even here on this very board people get rude or attack another fellow human for stupid stuff. I held the door to a store I went to today open for a lady, and she was just astonished I did it. I guess I am starting to show my age now. I grew up in a time where you had to say yes ma'am, no ma'am, yes sir, no sir. When was the last time you heard that? I grew up in a time when if I did something wrong, Grandma made me go out to the backyard and pick my own switch. And heaven help you if you brought back a little one! Heck, I even remember having to walk to school with no shoes, uphill, in the snow 5 miles a day! And then walking 7 miles home uphill again!
Seriously tho, I sleep a lot better at night by living by the Golden Rule. And for those of you who don't remember what that is, it's "Do Unto Others what you would have them do to you".

It's a good thing Steve doesn't have any trees around here. Lately, they would have been bare.

Have fun, but play nice!

I heard this story all the time over and over again from my teachers. We have to walk 5 miles everyday.... bla bla bla

I don't know if this story is pass down from generations to generations. But why does every story have to be without shoes, walking 5 miles, and going up hill in snow? Woudn't you be sick by then, by the time you get to school? Then your parents would be sued for child endangerment, and you'll be in a foster home.

But then again, what if a child didn't make it all the way?? He might got tired after walking 3.5 miles without shoes, in the middle of nowhere, on top of a hill with snow falling down. I guess he would be freeze to death. Then when the snow melt, bodies of little kids will be dying everywhere without shoes on top of a hill. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

That's why today we got somthing called an automobile to reduce walking.

maybe its just where you live. People around here seem nice enough, well, MOST OF THEM. There are always rude people, but there are more in certain areas. Anyways, I used to have to walk to school IN THE SNOW (and I'm only 16) but I never had to walk up hill BOTH WAYS :P

I had to walk to school and back in the snow at one time also. And yes, I often times hold doors and say "sir" or "ma'am" Of course, I'm a waiter and being a good little boy is required or else I'll get stiffed on the tips. But overall I think I am a pleasant person. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif Now I think I deserve a pat on the back! =p

Courtesy is not old fashioned or out of date, and the golden rule should still rule.

whew, once again I say SUBJECTIVE, hehe, i know your all tired of it by now... BUT, maybe in one area it isn't considered rude to NOT hold the door. Like the chinese, I'm sure they have different ideas of politeness than americans... I use this geography thing a lot, but its because, We don't all live in the same area... AND things aren't the same EVERYWHERE, people and cultures differ greatly... You can't just think a about things in terms of where you live and then start talking as if its that way EVERYWHERE. This is the internet, and there are people from all over the world here, i'm sure that very few people here have the EXACT SAME views on this...

Maybe it's where I live, but I've never met anyone who isn't rude. I mean, rude is just the standard politeness around here.

Bryan,

Are you stupid? The word filter is there for a reason. Where the hell do you live anyway? Redneck City?

woah, kris, no offense but uh,,, doesn't sound like you know what your talking about... he said that nig*** is blocked OF COURSE but that honkee isn't,,, which is well, wrong, they should both probably be blocked, because they are BOTH racist. He's complaining that the editing system is ****ed. And that honkee should be blocked/edited too... and redneck city? well, thats just as prejudice, I think its a little hypocrittical to say come out and say that he's dumb for thinking that nig*** shouldn't be edited (when thats NOT AT ALL what he meant) so how about you just take it easy, and think a bit more before YOU post... sorry if I sounded RUDE http://geekvillage.com/ubb/tongue.gif...

Kris, I asked how come nigg.er filtered, but honkee is not.

I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in a fairly good neighborhood. Baton Rouge is the capitol of Louisiana so it is not Redneck city.

But hey, it is america, and there's the first amendment. so.. oh well. i am chilled and i did think before i posted. Well i guess calling u stupid wasnt necessary. so my bad, bryan.
