I don't know if anyone remembers, but about a year ago, I posted a "what do y'all think" post about my thoughts/plans for a site/company called Wondermill. It's slowly coming to life - we just moved into office space (http://wondermill.com/office/july/)! Anyways, we just got a webcam up, if anyone feels like checking it out...

Aaron:

I tried it 5 times. Your web-cam image is giving me an X! http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif - It's not working. Can you check and see? ehm!

Sorry, zMan - it'll be up tomorrow, probably all day. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

What's the use/purpose of all this though? Just wondering...

You think people would go for a webcam that broadcasts me while i'm sleeping? http://geekvillage.com/ubb/tongue.gif (you know, just like mount it somewhere on my bed)

hahahahahahahahah http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I love Cams!

Can we get some shots of the exterior please? Or do you cue for requests. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Your color balance needs serious serious help but they are still cool. Pun intended.

Purpose? We don't neeeeed no steeenkin' purpose! ;-) It's for FUN!

Sorry 'bout the colour contrast, it's not even a proper webcam, just a cheap digital camera streaming through our video card.

Exterior shots aren't a go yet, in fact we're sorta in the back... no outside unless you walk for a bit.

I'm watching you guys as I type.

Looks good. Idea! Can you move the Cam to the other side of the room so it sits behind you geeks?

This way you aren't shooting directly into the windows/light. May turn out the same or may be better.

What's the technology requirements to do this? Server load? Bandwidth? CPU ticks?

Thanks

We will move it now. ;-) Let me know what you think! CPU etc aren't bad at all, actually. About 6 people are watching us right now.

Do ya like Spidey?

Well, that didn't work out so hot... from the other corner, it couldn't see everyone.

Cool!!!

Maybe you should try to zoom-in the cam a little bit so the faces of the people and everything is a bit more clear.

Yeah, we will be adding more cams sometime this week or next, so it'll be kinda neat - you'll be able to see much more of the space. It's much bigger than what you see (I wanted to have room to grow, we're optimistic around here!) so we'll set up different views and stuff.

Nope, that'd be because it was OFF. ;-) You should be able to see it at that connection speed, no problem. It's on now.

I wish more folks had webcams, they're so much fun, IMHO. The next step we want to do (realistically it'll be quite awhile before we do this project) is to mount controls and a camera on a robot (I just moved it into view on the cam) so people can drive the camera around the office.

I STILL can't see it http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif, did you take it down again? OR is my computer just inept?

I saw your office cam image, does it refresh images itself? I still see the same image unless it's off, the page won't fully load for me when I refreshed but it's still trying to come in again. It can be a lot of fun Aaron. I still have my old garden/pond webcam page up http://www.samnet.net/gunther/ with archived seasonal shots but took the camera down over a year ago since moisture got in and kept fogging up the lens. I had a quick cam but didn't like it so switched to a Kodak cam...a lot better quality image. I haven't touched that page in over a year and I'm still getting listed in webcam directories!

It locks up sometimes... sorry. Not the best software and all that. We should buy a proper cam, really. Knix, send me an email when you're on, and I'll make sure it's all up and running for ya. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

WebWasher (ad filtering proxy at work) eats the code that displays the image. But either way, I don't see much, since when I disable WebWasher, the image won't load anyway.
